Bridges of the Panal Canal

As of August 2023, there are three main bridges that cross the Panama Canal:

The Bridge of the Americas - Completed in 1962, this is the first bridge built over the
canal and connects the Pacific side of Panama with the northern part of the country.

The Centenario Bridge - Opened in 1962, this bridge is located near the town of Balboa
and provides another crossing over the canal.

The Atlantic Bridge (or the Amador Causeway) - This bridge spans the canal at its northern
end, providing access between the Atlantic side and the Pacific side.

In addition to these, there are several smaller crossings and structures, but the three
mentioned are the primary bridges facilitating vehicular traffic over the canal.

There are currently 3. (I am not counting the old swinging bridge at the Miaflores locks,
which is currently not operating). The first bridge over the canal was the old Thatcher
Ferry Bridge now called the Bridge of the Americas built in 1962, on the Pacific side of
the Canal. The second is the Centennial Bridge built in 2004 in the center of the canal. The
third is the Atlantic bridge built in 2019 the only one on the Atlantic side. The country is
in the midst of planning and construction of a fourth bridge on the Pacific side to not only
be the longest, widest 6 lane vehicle bridge that will also take the Metro to the Western
side of the canal.
