Harpy Eagle

Harpy Eagle in Panama
The Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja) is the national bird of Panama.
This majestic bird is recognized for its strength and power, which symbolize the country's values.
Standing three feet tall with a wingspan up to seven feet, it is the strongest bird of prey in the world.
Panama today has the greatest concentration of Harpy Eagles in Mesoamerica, with more than 200 breeding pairs estimated.
The eagle is most commonly found in the extensive, protected lowland rainforests of DariƩn in eastern Panama.
Despite its large size, the Harpy Eagle can maneuver through dense rainforest canopies and remains well-hidden.
Panama declared the Harpy Eagle as its national bird on April 10, 2002
