Tom's Biennial Flight Review
On the fourth time trying Tom finally completed his Biennial flight review. February 12, 2000.
The first time out weather had forecast wind shears at 500 feet AGL. Tom being the conservative pilot elected not to fly. Everyone else had a great flight.
The second time out the wind was howling so no one flew.
The third time, a weekday, Tom was out there with the snow and rain. Two balloons took off. Both managed to make it south of town in about 10 minutes. Tom elected to stay on the ground.
"Best to be
on the ground wishing you where in the air, as opposed to being
in the air wishing you where on the ground"
"Takeoffs are optional, landing are mandatory"
During the Friends and Love's Rally Matt Gutherie asked Tom to fly his balloon and take the biennial. Tom & Matt waited until most of the balloons where launched and then assembled Matt's, Aerostar "Zion Blue" and took off. High winds at 800 feet AGL kept Tom close to the ground.
Thanks Matt and Lori Gutherie for a great day and allowing me to fly Zion Blue. And many thanks to DJ, Morgan, Brad, Sam, Randy, Lois, Buddy, Vicky, DeAnn, Jay, and Cathy for being there and doing a super job as crew.
