III. Equipment Layout

• Basket
  • Mount burner
  • Check basket integrity and attach cables Check fuel system: test main, pilot and auxiliary system, pressure for each tank and all fittings
  • Determine tank usage sequence
  • Check tank straps
  • Connect instruments - set pressure and check function
  • Check strikers
  • Check drop line
  • Check map pouch items and documents
  • Lay basket on side
  • Tie off basket
• Envelope
  • Unpack and pull out
  • Check if right side up
  • Stretch out crown line - free from knots and tangles
  • Connect load cables to basket
  • Connect temperature wires
  • Connect valve line to superstructure
  • Stow envelope bag in basket
  • Stow flight gear- radio, jackets, gloves, tools, maps and helmets
  • Fan - clear of basket
  • Chase vehicle positioned with tie off

IV Inflation

1. Crew positioned and re-briefed Clear area
2. Brief spectators
3. Start fan - operator briefed
4. Pilot pre-flight
   • Secure valve panel
   • Check valve line
   • Check fabric for holes
   • Check crew operations
   • Complete walk around inspection
5. Pilot in position behind burner
   • Hot inflation checklist
   • Check burner - blast valve closed
   • Open pilot light valve
   • Ignite pilot light(s)
   • Open selected tank valve(s)
   • Signal mouth crew and crown line
   • Burn as required to erect envelope
   • Signal to cut fan and clear away

V Pre-launch

1. Crew positioned for weigh off
2. Secure crown line
3. Reseat valve and secure valve line
4. Propane pressure gauge reading
5. Fuel management plan
6. Redundant fuel system operational
7. Auxiliary burner operational
8. Instruments on and set
   • Altimeter - pressure set or field elevation
   • Variometer
   • Temperature gauge
9. Maintain envelope temperature as required Passengers on board and briefed
10. All auxiliary equipment on board and stowed
11. Time and temperature noted

VI Launch

1. Chase vehicle keys w/driver
2. Lines secured
3. Crew "hands on" as required
4. Safety check - clear area
5. Bring balloon to equilibrium
6. Weigh off
7. Climb as required

VIII Recovery

1. Orient basket
2. Turn off fuel
3. Crown line tension by crew
4. Valve open
5. Basket on side
6. Squeeze air (mouth toward valve opening)
7. Wrap crown line
8. Disconnect valve line
9. Position valve panel
10. Disconnect temperature lead
11. Disconnect envelope cables from basket
12. Pack envelope
13. Upright basket
14. Depressurize fuel lines
15. Disconnect burner from superstructure
16. Turn off instruments
17. Secure radio and personal gear
18. Load and secure envelope and basket
19. Recheck fan tie downs
20. Check area for any gear or tools
21. Thank landowner again
22. Present certificate/pin
